About Darlene Morrison — Serving The Community

As a mother of three children in our public schools, a certified teacher, and an active community member in Newmarket, I bring firsthand understanding of the strengths and challenges our students face.

I hold a Master of Education from the University of Toronto, a diploma in Management Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) — formerly Ryerson University — and a BA from York University.

Here in Newmarket, you might know me from the hockey rink, the local ball diamond, or the school yard — cheering on my kids and supporting our teams. That experience as a parent, educator, and community member shapes how I see our schools: as places where every student should feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.

My leadership in education includes serving as President, Chair and board director with community organizations such as NewMakIt, the Newmarket Minor Hockey Association, Newmarket Soccer Club, and CHATS.

For me, this role is personal. I have seen the dedication of our teachers, the resilience of our students, and the hopes of our families. I believe public education is one of the most powerful ways to build a stronger, more caring Newmarket — and I am committed to making sure every decision I make at the board table puts our students first.

Thank you for trusting me with this responsibility. I will work hard every day to earn it.
